"Pog" wasn't around in my day. We called 'em REMFs (Rear Echelon Mother f***). Hey, I fought another war w/the VA for over 30 years to get where we are now re PTSD. Not hating, but just pointing out that when I was your age I used to walk to school thru 20 miles of snow, etc., etc. ad infinitum...

What's so :werd: about that? You are among the best the USA has to offer. You should have some damn fine skills when you get out. Me, I was a grunt Marine; proud but who would need my post enlistment job training?
Dont get me wrong sir, I love my job, and am extremely grateful to have one :dblthumb: , I just get burnt out on it after awhile, same s***, same regs, different plane....every day. C-130's arent exactly spring chickens, they stink, theyre filthy, and theres a lot of them. Lol, my little brother lucked out and gets to work on the F-22's....now THAT is where I want to be.

The F-22 is sexy-but when you get out the old and honorable C-130 will still be the major workforce of many nations needing highly skilled mechanics to keepin'em flying. Old, dirty, smelly, bullet magnets, cold and gawd awful loud as I remember them. But regardless, they motored on.

Keep'em flying my brother zoomie!

If I had been smart and not so gung ho stupid, I would have enlisted in the USAF in the mid '60's. Instead I enlisted in the USMC back then. When I was in-country I had a chance to get ferried around in those noisy but secure beasts. Then in the 80's I did x8 years as a USA psychologist. I got out in '89 and have been in private practice since.

Those years in the Army were an excellent training ground for my profession. As you know, the military throws all kinds of s*** at you and expects you to deal with it. Either you sink or swim. If your military occupation is highly transferable (i.e. being a grunt Marine/Infantry/-not!) as yours and my psychologist tour was, we come out w/a lot more experience than a similarly trained & experienced civilian.

So do you still mostly work with soldiers suffering from PTSD? Thats great that you were able to get that kind of experience and actually make a nice paying career out of your service. Theres lots of returned troops and ex-military that leave with barely any skills and have a hell of a time getting a decent payng job, on the other hand theres lots of us that were fortunate enough to get a very nice job in the civil service.

I am in the final 18 mos of my professional career. At this time I see very few w/combat related PTSD; compassion fatigue has taken its toll on me-enuf is enuf. There is a whole new generation of folks who will carry on. The only guy who can take care of me, is me.

Yes, when I came home in 1970 no one had a job for a mud Marine-there was a recession on too and so it was back to school on the GI Bill at $240 a month for everything. It helped tremendously getting more education...

Ive never heard the term "compassion-fatigue", but I can totally understand how it would wear on you after so many years. What are you going to do after you leave your practice, were able to set money aside in a 401k, or an independant IRA?

Roth IRA's. However, they don't amount to much. My wife gave up her bank job (head teller) when our first was born, and has invested continually for the past 35 years. That is what will get us over the retirement hump. Hence we've been on a very strict budget over all these years. Hell, I couldn't buy my 2nd hand M back in '07 until I was 60.

There is no secret to money for retirement-you gotta' sock it away gradually over the producing years. It takes a lot of delay of gratification. It always astonishes me the age of so many of my list mates herein. That they are so young and can afford such luxury machines and mods at this stage of their lives.

It bewilders me as well, I make a pretty good living and dont live beyond my means, by any means, and I still cannot afford to mod my car that heavily, shoot, I cant even afford wheels at this present moment. I have to wonder how many of these guys are buying these things on credit? I personally refuse to mod my car on credit, its an investment that surely will never pay me back, yeah my car will take longer to get to is finale, but, I wont owe anything when its all said and done.... :rotflmao

Sorry for the thread revival guys. RCR videos are different and always "interesting" in their stereotypes of the owners.

I thought the video was funny and when I came across this thread shortly after; well, peanut butter meet jelly.

I'm also on our remote sensing strike team, which we take aerial imagery (HD/ thermal IR/ multi-spectral) using weather balloons, planes, or helicopters.
