What is your input on this(making internal wastegate go "atmospheric")

I was thinkin about cutting the wastgate pipe (at the blue line shown below)and letting it blow out right at the elbow instead of runnin it back thru to the exhaust.

What do you think about this idea

It would work fine, but I doubt you would see any real performance gains from doing that.

It would also be very loud, especially under boost.

My friend did this to his and it makes the car sound like it has an open downpipe.

wayne at phase2 told me that

on the high horsepower track cars that they've built, if they don't run external wastegate, they do that modification.

anyway, just a little bit of info.

It sounds like a decent idea. The only issue I see is that the seal between the internal gate and the smaller wastegate pipe on the elbow isnt perfect, so even at idle you'll be venting exhaust via the cut elbow. With my external gate it's quiet till it spools, then it sounds loud as ****.
