Wait - now this is cool:
World's Fair accident [edit]
An accident at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair damaged the first prototype badly, killing the driver, and seriously injuring the two passengers, one of whom was William Sempill, aviation pioneer and Japanese spy. The Dymaxion had rolled over, and although the driver was wearing a seatbelt, the prototype's canvas roof had not offered sufficient crash protection. The cause of the accident was not determined, although Buckminster Fuller reported that the accident was due to the actions of another vehicle that had been following the Dymaxion closely.[5] The crash prompted investors to abandon the project, blaming the accident on deficiencies of the vehicle's steering.
In his 1988 book The Age of Heretics, author Art Kleiner maintained the real reason Chrysler refused to produce the car was because bankers had threatened to recall their loans, feeling the car would destroy sales for vehicles already in the distribution channels and second-hand cars.

Eh, first video that caught my attention on YouTube. I could probably find a much better video by someone else from something like the Gold Rush series that would have been better lol.TDot wrote:Well damn, that's 2:53 of my life ill never get back for that underwhelming commercial, they could have done much better. Anyway, I have to go Avant-garde, I'm going with Koenigsegg Agera R, the fastest car, and sexy as hell. Outside looking like the stealth b0mber and inside looking like a rocket ship.

That is a steep price tag... Brabus is known to push the limits on the AMGs as well as sticker prices on their products lol....people will spend money to have the Brabus badge on their cars....wingFeather wrote:robert_4.5_S wrote:0-60 3.7 sec

I don't mean to come across harsh, but it better have more going for it than it's 0-60 time.
Oh yes! Nexty to my Bugatti would be both the Ferrari GTO 250 and the 250 GT California (Ferris Bueller's Day Off) - both are examples of cutting edge super cars of their time.merlinq2 wrote:- kind of cool if you like vintagewingFeather wrote:Hard to decide, but it would be one of these:

I had a difficult time choosing between that & the GTO... glad to see I'm not alone in my admiration of this artwork!Larz wrote:the 250 GT California

j/kWait a minute. This is not fair. I have to pick one? The Bugatti would be at the top of my list as are most other posters cars. Very interesting question. If I had to pick one, today, it would be a Lincoln with the suicide doors. If I could get that I would get an old Doozy. Both would have to be restored to like new condition. WOW! You are twisting my feeble mind just thinking about just one of many I would love to own. I am driving myself nuts, thinking on all the other one's I like. Very good entertaining post.Larz wrote:Forgive me if this sort of thing is frowned upon -
Moderators, let me know and I will not post this sort of stuff anymore.
WHAT IS YOUR DREAM CAR?
Imagine no obstacles, no financial limits, no limits on how many cars you can own, and pick one car that you must add to your massive 5,000sq ft air-controlled garage.
Mine is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Vitesse (open-top roadster)
This is the video that made me fall for the car over a year ago
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAKzAGjLr14
Selling price new and hand-built from factory: $2.5-3 million US
FEATURES:
It's <gulp> French but don't let that influence you at all. Body sides are carbon fiber with a titanium front end.
It has a constant link back to Bugatti and sends data so they can manage and contact you if anything is needed.
It has 11 radiators, quad turbos and air coolers, quad fuel pumps, an 8L v16 engine with 1180Bhp, 1100pd ft torque and goes from 0-60 in 2+sec, 0-100mph in 5+ sec. It has 4-wheel drive, a 7speed dual clutch trans and top speed over 250mph. Required tires from Michelin made solely for this car ($10k per set). It barely makes 10mpg and if you run it at top speed it runs out of gas in 12 seconds LOL!
(Available in any color scheme you request. Optional highly polished aluminum trim instead of carbon fiber is also available for an additonal $600k.
It's average owner is a male who also owns 35 other vehicles, is driven an avge of 2,500 miles per year and previous year models have no depreciation at re-sale.
umm the current Nissan gtr has a dual clutch...it shifts faster than humanly possible...limited edition comes in around 114k...Larz wrote:LOL baer - let's twist the mind a bit more, shall we?
Consider the transmission:
The transmission on the Bugatti is a double-clutch transmission - It's two individual transmissions working in tandem to allow shifts to be completed in just 150 milliseconds. It's not actually an automatic trans, but an automatically-controlled manual transmission. Having two clutches allows the car to have two different gears completely engaged at the same time so that the car can be accelrating in one gear and aleady have the next gear ready to go. The transmission never shifts actually 'gears' - it simply switches from one clucth to other. This way, there is no lack of power, no pause, and no evidence of a shift up or down. The transmission never stops spinning gears and always has the next gear at the ready on the opposite clutch.
This video of the how the car was created will blow your mind. It took the best minds from automotive and aerospace to do it. It takes a team of 17 people 4-5 weeks to build each car by hand.
