Hey everyone, so I bought my coupe a couple days ago. I have yet to drive it off the dealership lot. Heres the problem:

All the paperwork was signed, the car was in the back getting washed and detailed. It seemed to be taking way too long, so I wandered into the service dept to see what was up. I walked in on about 7 techs under the hood. Apparently when the ignition button was pressed to turn the car off, it would turn off for about 2 seconds and turn itself on again. The only way to shut off the car is to disconnect the battery.

Obviously I left the car there and they assured me that everything would be fine and he car would be ready to pick up today. Today rolls around and I called many times to hear if it was fixed or what the diagnosis was, no one could give me an answer. Finally I drove over to the dealership to find out exactly what was wrong. The claimed they spent all day working on the car troublshooting....and they STILL have NO idea what is wrong with the car!!!! What was even more discouraging, was when the service manger told me that no one has ever seen this happen before.

So my question here is, has anyone had a similar issue, or does anyone here think they might know what the problem could be?

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

is the car starting without the key fob in the car? sounds like a problem with the push button starter if the keys ARE actually in the car when this is occuring. maybe the car will turn off on you just out of the blue as well. that could be a bit scary and i hope they get it figured out for you.

this happens when the keys are in the car and out of the car. Heres the other part of the problem. I bought the car used. It has 2,000 miles on it and was traded in. I'm wondering why such a new car was traded in the first place. Maybe this happened to the first owner? Maybe it's a lemon? I'm very confused.

it is covered by the warranty....I just don't know if I should take the car once they have fixed it. What if it happens again? The dealership has already said they'd be willing to give me my money back if I chose to back out of the deal seeing as this happened on their property etc. But I love the car and would like to not have to go that route.

I asked if I could do a swap with another coupe on their lot, but seeing as mine was pre-owned, I'm limited to only doing a swap with a pre-owned one...and I bought the only pre-owned coupe on the lot. They said I could get a new one and pay the difference, but I went with the used one b/c of the price.....so I don't want to go that route either. Just a sucky situation.

so this happened AFTER you signed papers? oy... I would never take a car in such a condition, like you said, you never know if it happens again if they do happen to fix it. If you're gonna blow some 20-30k on a car, better make sure everything is as it should be.

Have you ever heard that old saying " you get what you paid for"? Well i think that even though the new one is a little more expensive but atleast you know that your the first owner of that coupe and you know that car, but if you want to be cheap then get a brand new versa not that coupe. Also, if you can't afford a new coupe then what more for a used one which is not much cheaper than a new one unless something is really wrong with it that they really have to drop the price just to get rid of it. Like you said, you were even wondering why was this particular coupe traded in in the first place. Granted that this used coupe has warranty but it is not as long as a new warranty. Also, just to think that they had techs leaning over your vehicle and not knowing what caused it is something scary. My advise to you my friend is to get your money back while it is one of the options that you were given and invest that money in to a new one.

**** WARANTEE!

warantee to nissan means nothing but a load of ****. My clutch was clicking since day one almost, and its been 4 months and they wont fix it. I called and complained, threatened to write up a news paper about their poor work.

If i do not get this problem fixed soon, i may even go to the extreme and file a law suite. This is really pissing me off how nissan doesnt want to fix your car since its warrentee work, and they make a hell of a lot less then non warantee work.

**** NISSAN AND THERE LOAD OF ****, IM A HATER RIGHT NOW BECAUSE I AM SO ****EN FRUSTRATED WITH MY DAMN CLUTCH. IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS A CLUTCH PROBLEM, PLEASE TELL ME! AND I CAN GATHER MORE INFO AND GET THIS CASE CLOSED OR FLAMED UP EVEN MORE

... sorry bout that...im just really reallly reallly not so happy with nissan right now :P

Ok...yes, I did get the car used, and I understand the "you get what you paid for" saying, but they had listed the car for $21,888. I did not get the car for much cheaper than that. But because it's technically a used vehicle, there was more room to wiggle on the price. It's not like they gave the car to me for $18,000 or anything. I still payed somewhat close to their asking price.

I'm giving it till tomorrow, if they can't figure out what the problem is by then, I'm asking for my money back. I'm just really glad I didn't drive off the lot. The car is under warranty for 5 1/2 years...but I don't know if it's wise to take my chances if they fix it....

Thanks for all the input.

if you paid close to the $21,900 you might as well just go for a new one. I don't what kinda packages the one you bought had though.

Hi Allissan,I understand is good for 5 and half years but if it already has a problem on the electrical side then might as well get your money back and invest in a new coupe if its not that much of a difference. I wish you the best.

Update: my dealership called some nissan hotline and apparently they have heard of this sort of thing happening. It's rare, but once fixed, everything should be fine. There was some sort of short going on with the ignition. So it's fixed, and I plan on picking the car up tomorrow!

I'd demand a carfax report and service records from nissan, just to make sure it wasn't a "lemoned car".

Good luck!
