So can someone explain to me what exactly these terms mean? I thought I knew but after reading a post or two here ,I'm not sure. Thanks

understeer is when your front end pushes out while going through a turn. oversteer is when your rear end pushes out while going through a turn. understeer is easier to drive with but not as much fun. oversteer is more fun because the back end can rotate with ease, but you must be ready for it. hope this helps some.

It's easier to picture in terms of which end of your car loses traction first. Usually, you refer to it terms of just adding a turning movement to a car(Neutral throttle and brake, or constant speed). In many cases it can tie into something you are doing in the car. Trying to turn too fast for the speed, braking while turning - both usually result in understeer, though braking can cause a slight oversteer condition as weight transfers off the rear tires. Accelerating during cornering in a RWD car or lifting the throttle can cause power oversteer and lift-throttle oversteer respectively. Accelerating can also cause more understeer even in RWD cars as well when you can't overcome traction in the rear tires, so the extra energy gets diverted to the front wheels in the form of understeer.
