What is turbo injection

hey, i was watching a initial D the other day and I guess the kid gets a high reving N/A toyota race engine with turbo injection. What is this? Is this another name for direct injection? Incase anyone cares, direct injection is used mostly on diesel vehicles and it sprays the fuel at extremly high pressure directly into the cylinder. Some newer gasoline vehicles are using this setup, izuzu, or suzuki. Anyway, there are benifits to this system but i cant remember any of them right now.
