Although my Rogue has 5596 km, I decided to check the air filter. It was dirty, but I could see the light. So it passed the light test. While making a research about when to change the Rogue's filter, I found this link:

http://www.justanswer.com/nissan/22fpv- ... rogue.html

It says:

" Also you should have a throttle service done at the same time. This will reset your fuel settings to avoid running too rich or lean and reset your idle speed. "

I don't remember I read something like this in the owners manual. I am pretty sure whatever that "throttle service" is, the lazy and idiot mechanics at my dealership won't do (yesterday I realized that they broke two plastic locking pins while installing the remote starter  . Also they use regular electric tape to insulate the thick heavy gauge cables)

So what is "throttle service"?

Thanks.

PS. I read the topic about using K&N filters in our forum. I totally agree with Philipa and decided to buy NAPA GOLD filter. The code is changed, it is NGF 6044 (http://www.napacanada.com/en/PartsAcces ... spx#Detail)

It's throttle body cleaning. During engine operation, a small amount of carbon (the byproduct of burning fuel) can make it's way back into the intake and throttle body. Eventually the carbon deposits could become thick enough to cause issues with the throttle operation and idle control.

But honestly, this is a low maintenance item. Depending on your driving you could go years before needing to service it.

Personally I have NEVER cleaned the throttle body on my last 2 Nissan's. That's a combined 380,000km (228,000mi) of driving! Never had idle or fuel consumption issues.
This will reset your fuel settings to avoid running too rich or lean and reset your idle speed.
The engine computer can compensate for a dirty throttle body, air filter, etc so the rich/lean argument doesn't hold water. I do agree that a dirty TB could affect engine idle.

IMHO, throttle body service falls into the category of fuel injector cleaning, and oil & fuel additives. The benefits are minimal in most cases... and it's a good money making service for the dealer!
