Hi, My new 2011 Versa SL Hatchback continues to mystify me. I need help.

1) Just to the right of my hood and fuel door levers, is an unidentified 'thing.' It's about 1-inch in width, about 1/2 inch in height. The plastic front has a series of 13 little square indentations. There's an electric wire at the back end. On the bottom side, there appears to be a 'pressable' button. Not knowing its function, I chose not to press it. It's to the left of the OBDII connector. This little gadget doesn't appear in the Owner's Manual. On page 0.7, it's located to the right of item # 24. My neighbor has a 2011 Versa sedan without the host of options found on the LS Hatch. Her can doesn't have this 'device.' Can someone tell me what it is and what it does? I'm guessing - a sensor of some sort?

2) Daytime Running Lights [DRL], The Owner's Manual describes this feature as being on 'Canadian vehicles.' My neighbors 2011 Versa HAS DRL! The schematics in the Nissan FSM (CD) shows DRL relays and such only on Canadian cars. My SL Hatch? I don't think it has DRL {I'm not in a position to run out and start the engine to find out for sure}. I don't recall having seen my headlights on during what little driving I've done. I'm pretty sure I would have noticed. So, do USA 2011 Versas had DRL - or just some?

Not sure what you mean by DRL, my Tiida has a position on the lights column marked Auto and uses a light sensor to put the lights on automatically when it is dull, it also has an auto position for the wipers which come on if it starts to rain. In Scotland at the moment both are on fairly constantly.

DRL should be Canadian only. Could your neighbor have the Auto function turned on (if it's available on a Versa)?

There is a fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay that controls the DRL. Plug in a fuse to activate it.

Tried that a few years back, that doesn't work.

Any way you can post a pic of this thing?? Sounds like your dealership might have installed a tracking device of some sort maybe?

I finally took my car back to the dealer to find out the function of the little 'device.' First guy had no clue, Second guy said, "Oh yeah! That's 'part' of an alarm system you don't have. So, it's dead - it serves no purpose. But, if the alarm system were installed, it would activate or deactivate the system." {I'm not sure what he stated on the activation/deactivation aspect}.

I guess that's the only answer I'm gonna get. Still, if it's part of an alarm system they sell, you'd think more folks would have known exactly what it was ~ james
