I noticed the power steering making some noise and added a little fluid, came across this Round Tank and I could not locate a diagram in my owners manual or online to tell me what this is, nothing on the cap to signify what goes inside.

Looks like it goes to the water pump but has some type oil/fluid inside.

Just purchased this car, moved up from a J30 to a I30 for 10 years now to the 2002 Q45 with 66,000 miles. Anything I need to know about this car feel free to let me know.

I don't know if all the 2002 's came this way, it has the 18" wheels, reclining rear seats, navigation, controls in the rear arm rest, all the shades for the rear windows. The trunk lid just falls shut though, seems there should be some resistance though. I have a lot of reading to see how the different options function.

looks like typical nissan power steering fluid container to me,but double check owners manual, as I believe that series used hydraulic fan fluid also.

That is what I thought at first also, another power steering tank, that is why I followed the hoses the best I could. I never have heard of the hydraulic fan, a new one on me, it's low and I need to add something to the tank. I skimmed in the owners manual and did not see any diagrams I am use to seeing, I will have to look again.

I have three manuals, Navigation, Warranty and I think the last one was an Owners Manual, albeit a thin one.

No Owners Manual, the third manual is a Lemon Law Manual and the Infinti manual case is full, I don't see where another manual would fit, maybe these cars came with no owners manual. Doesn't sound correct.

I stuck a paper towel down the hole and it does have a red tint, smelled like maybe it is transmission fluid, just don't want to put the wrong fluid in there.

Okay I found this on the illustration, it's Part Number 12. As you say it looks hydraulic, transmission fluid would be it.

Ditto on that probably being for the hydraulic fan. I've yet to figure the engineering logic out for that system - but there must be some reason for it.

Thanks Mike, great information. I also found a downloadable Owners Manual and that had the info I was looking for also.

Yes, that is for the hydraulic fan clutch. When I got my 2002 Q45, mine was near empty. I realized that it was under the plastic engine covers and the mechanics never noticed it there to be checked.
