What is the silver canister that is bolted to my battery platform thing? Do I need this because its kinda in the way of my lower radiator hose. Can i get rid of it? Thanks.

its your a/c drier. Keep it if you want a/c ...If you are removing a/c remove that along with all the lines...

If it has been open for more than 24 hours, its shot. the dessicant pellets inside have absorbed the moisture from the air surrounding it and are full to capacity...gotta replace it!
