What is this?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

hello all, newbie here, just got this 240 a couple of days ago.....i'm looking at the engine bay and i notice this round thing with wires attached to it...one goes directly to the positive of the battery and the other two goes, well one goes to a wire looms under the engine and the third one...not sure where it goes....hopefully these picture will clarify it....

heres a closer shot.....excuse the picture quality....i was using a camera phone.

in this picture....the wire on the right goes to the positive terminal of battery. the middle one goes to the wire loom/harness. and the left one, i dont know where it goes.

I would guess a homemade grounding kit.. you can search for hks, nismo ground kits on ebay.

If it's connected to the positive it's probably some kind of voltage regulator or maybe a capacitor for your amp. Be weird for a grounding kit to hook up to the positive terminal.

it really looks like a starter solenoid to me actually.....

I'm with Flim. It really looks like a solonoid... but it may not be. Can you cross it with a screwdriver and start the car (NOTE: This could ruin what ever it is so be sure you really want to know what it is.)?

well, i just looked at it again, i zoomed a bit on the pic, and it still looks like a starter solenoid, but the wires coming off it don't suggest its being used for its intended purpose. They look much smaller that whats required. did someone rig it to do something else? a pic with its location in the engine bay might help.

well, im the third owner of this car and the previous owner probably doesnt know sqat. i am tempted to disconnect the positive wire and see what happens. i might do this this weekend. will post back

so i disconnected the positive wire and tried starting the car...all i hear is a click, no cranck at all, i attached it to the battery again and it started.....definitely a starter solenoid huh???? i wonder what happened for them to do it this way.

the one on ur starter died, need a new starter.
