This is on my front clip. It has 1 electrical connector going to it and 3 vacuum lines. They are colored red, blue, and green. There is another connection for a white line but the white line is not there. Do I need this part on my car? Here are pics:

Do I need it? And if so, where do I wire in that connector?

That second pic looks like the carbon canister and purge solenoid, like TMS said emissions crap, but I think i remember reading somewhere that it infuences your gas milage as well, can anyone confirm this?

You mean charcoal cannister? I think I have that up toward the front of the car. But if a carbon cannister is different, that could be it I guess. I really have no idea. I looked through the emissions section of the FSM and didn't see anything.

Yeah carbon canister, charcol canister, same thing, but I could be wrong of course, I'm not a CA know-it-all, I'm just getting started.

But what if it is something that could help mileage? I would be interested in that, especially if it is something that doesn't rob much power to do it.

At this point, my main concern is wiring that one electrical connector. I didn't see it on any wiring diagram. But then again, I am not sure where to look.

That second pic looks alot like a power valve vacuum tank. Used to hold vacuum pressure to keep the power valve closed until the power valve control solenoid cuts the vacuum and the second set of butterflies pop open. Have you followed the vacuum lines to see where they go?

Can't really tell what that solenoid is unless it's the power valve control solenoid.

You dont really need that, its goes to the FPR, 2nd Butter flies and the back of the intake manifold.

Heres a pic (on my motor) of how to re route the vaccum hoses:

Those butterfly valves are more useful on a N/A CA18, but pretty worthless on the DET. Hook it up like Kevin did his and everything should be just fine. You can actually scrap the charcoa/carbon canister or hook it up (your choice).

I unplugged the butterfly valve solenoid and my car seems to run a lot smoother.

Yea, I unplugged it the other day. I could always feel the hesitation until the valves opened to allow more boost. Now its all smooth.

Do it!

Dont choke your forcefed CA with those stupid butterfly valves.

Plus when I had the head off with the intake manifold apart, the ports with the butterfly valves were all covered with carbon.

The back of the intake valves that feed off those ports had carbon piled up on them.

I'll get a picture of the bent valves that came off my head so you guys how much good those carbon causing buttlerfly valves are doing.

Or you could do it like the guy who built my engine did, and remove the butterflies all together!:D

Yea ill do that when I get the money to do it the right way. On my KA I removed them and JB welded the holes shut. Ghetto but it worked.

I'm going to remove them when I do the rebuild in a month or so. I've got to get my BOV flange welded onto my intercooler piping so I'll have him do the manifold at the same time.
