Hey guys, what is the proper name for the bar which connects from the front control arm, to the sub frame?

There is one on each side in the front, and it looks to be about 12-14" long with bushings on the ends. Goes away from each wheel towards the front bumper at an angle. It's like a 1/2" solid steel bar.

My buddy called them a "caster bar" for lack of a better term. Going to try to order them for my car soon, and the proper name would help

Anyone have any experience with replacing these? Is OEM the only way to go? After market? Any information would be great!

THANKS!

Tension rod. I don't think there's any aftermarket part.

Call them what ever you want but you can get them from the dealership. You can also get just the bushings from the dealership and then just press in or have a shop press in the new bushings.

If yours are worn out you'll notice thunking sounds as you go over bumps.

If yours are worn out and you replace them, the difference is night and day. The car is much smoother and quieter afterwards.

Thanks for all the replies!

I have a friend who has a garage, and said he'd help press the bushings in. Is there any benefit going with the entire part, vs. pressing in new bushings?

Thanks again!

Yeah, money! The bushings are cheaper than the whole part.

Obviously

Just wanted to make sure there was no benefit with going with the entire tension rod instead of putting in a new bushing.

If it'll be like new with just a bushing replacement, then I'm going to order them now!

Thanks guys!

do you have any Photos??

the bushings on mine are also torn, i dont know if that could cause a clunking sound when i press on the breaks, i'm still in diagnoses mode, but i will defenately be replacing those bushings on both sides after exams.....

where did you get the bushings from??

Yes, it will cause clunking when braking or going over bumps.

I got the bushing straight from my local dealership. They actually had them in stock.

I have these on my J and my steering is amazingly responsive.. No slop or play whatsoever. I highly recommend. These were the least-expensive/greatest-quality I could find.Make sure you take your car in for an alignment, as they are adjustable (which is easy for an alignment tech to adjust)werd

Can someone provide a link to the part on EverythingInfiniti.com?

I tried looking here, but I can't find the right part.

If someone could provide a link, that would be great so I can order them up.

The bushing is definitely the culprit if your getting a clunking noise while braking and hitting bumps, numerous people have told me the exact same thing!

I got the bushings for both my Js from rockauto.com, I ordered the spicer brand and they were in a spicer box but inside they were packaged genuine Nissan.

The only problem I had was my 97 had Q45 rods in it which takes a larger bushing.

It's not cheaper at all. Sorry. Easier? Sure.

I think he was saying that the rods he showed in that link are cheaper than a pair of OEM's.

I replaced the whole Rod on mine because I didnt want to drive all over town to find a shop that would press the bushing out/in.

It was a ten minute job to replace the whole thing.
