I have an '89 240sx.

A while back I noticed my driver's side power window didn't work and made a sort of lurching/clicking noise when the switch was pressed. I took the door panel off and found a plug going into the unit below. When I pushed the plug in more firmly, the window would work. This as ok for a while, but now the window has stopped working altogether regardless of how the plug is pushed in, although it does still make the noise when the switch is pressed. Is the part below at fault or is it my window motor?

That would be your power window amplifier. It probably contains a relay and a few other components. You could open it up and check they are ok.

that will cause your window to not work. you may still hear a click but not the motor. if you hear the motor running then the amp is not your problem. if the motor runs and the window no worky then its and issue with the regulator.

The motor doesn't run. I hear the click, kind of like a lurching noise, but no action from the motor. Thanks, I'll see what I can do about replacing this.

my amp is also dead, look at the two wires that go into the motor on both doors, they're the same color and everything. i have some old speaker wire in the car that i stretch from the passenger side to the driver side motor to make it go up and down, taking care to hook them up in the correct locations and also not to touch the exposed wire when operating the window.

it's a temporary solution, but i also don't have door panels in the car so it's easy to do.
