so today I took my oil pan off a used motor I bought. I finally got the oil pan off, and when i was dumping the rest of the oil that was in the pan, I heard some noise,, so i finally seen what is was, and it was a rectangle piece that looks like it is made of plastic, it looks like there was 2 of them, but one was shatterd in pieces, what are these things, and will i need them when i install my oil pan? they are about 1 inch by 4 or 5 inches long

what he said ^^^

and no you dont need them for your oil pan. they actually belong with the timing chain. but since they usually break off as in your case, just make sure you get all the bits before putting it all back together again.

Those guides should be out. Just dont take the guides out for the lower chain
