what is this hose for?

I have a 1991 s13 with a high flow air filter on it. I am still using the stock plastic box the allows the air to flow to the filter. when i hooked it up, I just threw the stock air box/filter out. and there is a hose that hooks to the stock air box. It has been connected now for a while and I'm wondering if it will affect my engine, and i wanna know what the dissconneted hose is for. * hope you guyz can help.

It's for the AIV. Leaving it disconnected is more likely to do good than to do bad, but you might want to plug it.
