The long piece coming off he back of the exhaust cam with the notch I cant put my valve cover on because it doesn't have any notch for it anybody know what it is? we bought the motor from advance auto parts for 1'500 discounted price : ) about the extent of what i know is that it has been bored out just slightly to clean up the cylinders and all the internals replaced, also thinking about taking the exhaust cam out of the old block and using it to replace that intake one, thoughts on that anyone have it done and can tell me the differences they feel?also it is a 93 hatch with a KA-24DE

Some dumb arce beaner who rebuilt it put an altima cam in your head, I'd take it back get your 1500 back and go buy a second hand from a salvage yard replace gaskets and front/rear seals and be done with it.

should be able to cut it, but yes that is an altima cam, the notch on the back of it is to drive the distributor.i'd also clean whatever you can off the head, cause it looks dirty as hell.

Honestly if you can I wouldn't use it. If someone didn't pay enough attention to know they put a fwd cam in a rwd engine there's no telling what else they might have missed. You could try finding a lower mileage late model from a 97-98 and swap the manifolds for less money and be able to spend whats left on other things. I know you don't always know what your getting when you get used but you don't know what your getting either. If you put it in and have problems with it they are going to say it was because it wasn't installed by an ASE certified person and want to shaft you. I'd take it back since you haven't gotten it running and tell them hey this isn't right with it, I don't want to use it because it looks like some idiot put it together, give me my money back.

1500 for a ka, even rebuilt, is kind of ridiculous.

unfortunately things seem to be getting worse and worse for my car right now my main fear is that it won't be running by October and my car has been sitting for the past two summers I am starting to think I went into this at 14 knowing near nothing about the car and I know enough about it as of now but my dad won't listen to me,we can't get the money back from the engine cause if we could trust me I would have told my dad just to take it back, never once wanted it in my car. so because my dad has issues with my wants for the car and we can't seem to agree I am gonna just try to get this thing pieced back together and running, I think I should have just got a running car for the first car I got instead of some kind of project I jumped in to things I knew nothing about and now I am paying the price for that , if any of you know how to get ahold of most of the bolts bolting the ka and everything around it send me an email or aim message, email is [email protected] aim is Chewbaccasroar

part the engine you have as a rebuilt longblock, then find a running motorset near you and put it in.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH USING THAT CAM AS AN EXHAUST CAM..CUT OFF THE DIST. NOTCH AND MAKE SURE IT IS TIMED RIGHT...THE AlTIMA STILL USED A 248 EXHAUST CAM WITH THE SAME SPECS AS THE LATE 94 240'S..I PERSONALLY HAVE THAT SAME CAM RUNNING AS AN INTAKE CAM ON MY 93

What must of us are saying here is that if the builder overlooked something that simple what else did he not do right. He might be getting a 1500 dollar pos.

i agree but if he is stuck with the motor then his choices are limited. if it was me personally i would pull the head and oil pan and start checking everything out. make the best out of a bad situation. if he can bring it back then great, but after getting one motor like this do you really want to trust that the next one is going to be right?

Thats why I said Id try and get my money back if I was him. Why waste time on something that probably isn't right, he could find a good low mileage used engine and regasket it with new tensioners and pump and be done with trying to make someones ****ed up rebuild work. But if he doesn't have any choices I guess he's just screwed.

Dont worry people the advance auto parts employee is here to clarify all of your woes. First of all i have played with our system extensively and i have sent in about 50 wrong part notifications to corporate. The KA in the catalog is for altimas. The head listed from us is from altimas the cams we sell are for altimas. For god sakes we got a 240sx 70f block with an altima head slapped on it once. Unfortunatly when it comes to getting engines and heads advance isnt the place to go. I hate to say it but Autozone has the right parts plus the price match are stuff so thats awesome

well, if you have no other choice than to run it, then either chop that nub off or use another cam for that side, just make sure its timed right. and before you thing about adding oil/starting it clean the head up as best as you can!! because that **** looks dirty. for a 1500$ motor you sure arent taking good care of it. but if it came like that, it sure the hell wasnt worth it.and i just noticed your from byhellyeah, be sure to check out the local events in memphis.

why does does it have to be a "dumb beaner" that built i know alot of beaners who can build good engine..even some very bad *** rotary egines in my small "beaner" town. OH yeah 1,500= too much for a ka engien u could have built one for that much but if u have to use it then use it.

I think best bet would be, pull the motor out of the car. Then get it into a room somewhere inside (bedroom if need be), lay down some plastic, start tearing apart the motor and cross reference all the parts with the fsm and measure them to see if they are in spec. Then rebuild, take outside and install.

WTF? U better never say that in front of me boy.PD: KA24DEKA24DE EngineEnlargeKA24DE Engine

The 2.4 L (2389 cc) KA24DE was used in many Nissan cars and trucks. Most KA24DEs bound for the US were built in Aguascalientes, Mexico, with the exceptions of the 240SX and 1994-95 Altima (rebadged bluebird sss), which were manufactured in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan and the U13 Bluebird released in Australia with FWD configuration.
