You mean removing the silencer to allow air to come in more freely?

Just get a cone filter.....

Yup thats the silencer... It's a "device" that muffles the air intake sound... I took mine off when I put in the AEM intake.

EDIT: you can just put a filter w/o buying the intake but... if you want to just remove the silencer go ahead and do it.. Doesnt hurt.

There is like maybe 2 or 3 screws to remove and thats it.

Just take off the lining that is in the driver side fender, then you'll see a black box with a tube leading up to where the intake box is. Just unscrew that black box since it is only held in there by like 3 screws or nuts. Take it out and thats it. All it really seemed to do was make the engine sound "meaner" nothing else really.

It goes a lil something like this...

take the filter box off, take off the snorkely thing, undo the 4 clips that hold the two halves together

checkpoint: you have the snorkel, throw it away you have the filter, put it aside you have the upper half of the box, put it aside then you take the bottom half, and you take your saw and you cut the bottom of it so that if you were to reach up from the bottom you would feel filterthen put the bottomless box back together and back on the car and it should sound good enough to be free:)

no, your gas milage might go up since air might be flowing easier. and it depend what they check in the inspection. when my brother had his car inspected becuase he baught the car out of state they didnt even open the hood, the just checked the VIN number on the door sil to the one on the dash and check the odometer and that was it. so i woudl worry too much about it. i doubt they remove the air filter during an inspection

I've always wondered what the purpose of that bottom box was. My car came with the Y pipe already taken off, and when I put my hand over the hole in the lower box I can't feel it pull any air. What's it do?

It also sounds pretty mean at WOT. =D

Just take out the resonator box, it adds 0.234234643453335543 HP
