What is this cable?

On my 2004 Nissan Quest, this short (about 4") cable is connected to the frame and something else via black connector. The cable is located underneath the battery tray and appears to be some type of grounding wire. The only labelling on it is AVS-3. Sorry, I don't know how to upload pics.

Mine corroded and broke into 2 pieces, so I need a new one.

Other (related) symptoms: I've noticed one particular fuse in the cabin has been blowing regularly (I assume something was shorting out) and then my 2 year old battery died and I couldn't jump it. I took it back where I bought it and they replaced it, but said it looked like the battery was overheating. Could this faulty wire cause these symptoms?

Anyone know where I can get a new one?

Thanks for your help.

A failed ground will absolutely cause those issues.

You can cut and splice the existing wire (make sure to cut out any corroded part) and replace with an equal or larger gauge wire.

Thanks, AZhitman. It's separated at the connector end, so not sure I can splice it - rather replace it.

Understood.

It may not be available via the dealer, but can certainly be replicated (depending on what the other end looks like).

Does it look like this? https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1704/ ... 1555468895

No. If you follow the negative battery cable from the battery terminal down to where it connects at the other end. The cable that's broken attaches from that spot to the frame. It's only about 4" long. I haven't been able to find it on the internet. I know I could get one at the salvage, but hope someone sells new ones.

Gotcha. It's simply a ground strap.

If it were mine, I'd simply make one (8ga wire and two ring terminals). Make sure you clean the metal well, and add some dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.

Alternatively, a generic replacement ground strap will do the job: https://www.oreillyauto.com/shop/b/batt ... 8fe2e84812

The end that connects to the frame is a ring, but the other end has a black connector that plugs onto a tab, similar to this (top part of image):

Would a cable for this use need to be insulated?

Thanks again for your help.

It's a ground. No insulation needed.

UPDATE --- I never could find this wire anywhere, so I went to Lowe's and bought one of these connectors (bottom image), cut the insulation back a bit, and attached it. So far, so good. Only time will tell if I have further problems.
