I got an old K&N from my Z I was going to throw on there but this thing creates a problem because it plugs into the stock airbox, what did some of you do? plug it? let it vent? remove it?

That is the AIV resonator box. It has a reed valve and a vacuum valve in side. The purpose is to help the cat light up quicker by allowing clean air (and its' oxygen) into the exhaust under vacuum conditions.

p.s. I removed it for my KA turbo install.

Buy letting clean air into the exhaust it allows the cat to bun the fuel that didn't burn better, it will lower your emissions when you go in for testing.

That box gets in the way when you try to clean the AIV... that's what it does :)

I put a little chrome air breather in there and it looks good plus it only cost about 7 dollars.

And it does nothing at the same time! Those Civic kids will think it's pretty tight though..

I would try to leave it if you have to go through emissions. Unless the piping for something wouldn't allow it I don't see why you would take it out.

It will effect your HC emissions if you bypass it. Whatever you do, don't plug it. It will allow exhaust air up into it and eventually corrode the vacuum controlled valve. If you keep it in place, use a breather filter. If you decide to remove it, remove it completely, and plug the hole in the exhaust.
