Went to go change my shocks today and found this...

The part on courtesyparts.com is listed as "BUMPER ASSY-BOUND REAR SUSPENSION."

Is this a "bump-stop"? If so, why does it look nothing like the ones sold on 4x4parts? If this isn't a bump-stop where are the bump-stops? Does the Pathfinder not have rear bump-stops?

It does however look like these....

Please Nico... enlighten me!

Yeah, that's your bump stop. Why is it contacting your lower shock mount? Are your shocks completely shot?

Like I said they do look like the ones referenced in the OP, are those the correct ones?

And I have a few theories as to your questions...

1) It is touching the seat of the rear coil spring because it's so butchered, that it just hangs there and therefore hangs a little low.

2) The rear coil springs are worn and the vehicle sits a bit lower. Shocks only absorb the bounce no? The springs is what keep the vehicle at a proper height.

Yup thats the bumpstop. The bumpstop on 4x4parts.com will not work (pretty sure those are designed for truck with leaf sprung axles). Gotta order from a dealership, a stock replacement.

I "fixed" mine by removing them entirely and installing a pair of AirLift 1000 air bags, and haven't looked back. For more info:

I'm sorry, it was 6am and I was still pretty asleep. I meant to say are your springs completely shot?

Pwnin, just out of curiosity, have you ever taken a good look at your bumpstops? I cant imagine a set of bumpstops that ISNT trashed by now.... pathfinder / QX4 springs are so weak, if you put any weight in the back, youre guaranteed to hit the bump stops

Haven't done any research yet, but any idea how to remove/replace these?

1. That seems like a lot of work/money to fix a damaged bump stop no?
2. Do they make a modified kit for the AC 2" Lift?

Really? Why not just replace them? Couldn't that potentially damge your vehicle if you were to hit a bump or take a dip to fast? I mean, they have to be there for a reason right? ... Right?!

Yes, they are there for a reason! It keeps your axle from slamming against the truck for one....though I guess the shock would stop it first. But like you said if its there, its a good idea to keep it there! They are relatively easy to take off and put on BUT it can become a complex job. When I did my lift I took them off to get the springs on easier, and the bolt snapped off half way out. So we had to drill out the bolt then tap and die the hole for a new bolt. Its a PITA to get a ratchet up there to unbolt it with the coil on. There is an easier way to do it with the coil off but then gettin a lift coil to fit over that is near impossible.

But my bumpstop looks different than yours. Kinda looks like yours is on like an extension of sorts. Here is a pic of when I did my lift.

cause the bolt that holds the bumpstop on broke off in the unibody frame!!

be careful not to do the same.... i think i was ratcheting it kind of crooked when it broke...

i can probably fix it but its gonna be a pain in the ***..... and honestly i dont notice any difference.... if anything, i probably get more tuck on one side during flex...

Or if you need to haul or tow anything over some pot holes or dips in the road at speed.....loud noises will be had! My bolts broke off, nothing a few hours with a drill, tap and die couldnt fix!

Looks like theres three different types of bump-stops varrying from 1996-2004, 3.3L to 3.5L, and 2WD to 4WD.

"http://www.courtesyparts.com/kb_search_ ... _4800_4804"

I know mines the first one listed on the top left. I would assume yours would be the one on the top right.

The link that was provided to the three different types of bumpstops no longer works. Im dealing with this now. my bump stops on my 97 pathfinder are completely rotten. need to replace them all but i dont know what to get. as well as the coil spring insulators. cant find accurate information anywhere.

The OE p/n is 55240-0W010. http://www.courtesyparts.com/nissan/pat ... 552400w010

You can buy the Febest version on Amazon for nearly half the OE price. http://www.amazon.com/Febest-Nissan-Bum ... B00C6MTQIW

To remove/install them, you need to remove the springs. The bolt that holds them is an 8mm x 1.25.

The bumpstops in the original post are actually from a Jeep Wrangler. The guy that owns that truck now is on NPORA and he has removed them in lieu of AirLift 1000 bags.

the other option is to drop in the red polyurethane bump stops in the middle of the coil spring from 4x4parts http://www.4x4parts.com/i-18915678-coil ... mpers.html
