its the little black canister on obd2 cars in the front by the throttle body, i has a vacume sorce comming form a solenoid and to bigger vacume feeds comming out of it , one going towards the fuel filter side and another to the back of the manfiold.

the reason i ask was because i was cleaning my manifold up and i broke the feed going to this black canister, so my question is do i need it and if i leave it disconnected will it affect anything .

thanks and sorry for the crappy pic

I had one I completley eliminated it, but my s14 still has the older computer wiring I only have one wire on my o2 sensor if that makes any difference. I just capped off the big vacuum and I think there are some other ones to cap off when you remove the little solenoid looking things.

Thats part of the evaporative emissions system, called an Evap canister purge control valve. Its a check valve, when vacuum is applied to the top of it it opens, allowing gas vapors to be purged from the system at certain RPMs. Its controlled by a thing that sits directly underneath the intake manifold that can be removed.

Those things tend to fail alot, and new they are like 80 bucks at my local nissan dealership. You can probably sell it in the classifieds. Blow in all 3 ports, if you cant hear air passing through the valve that means its still good.

Thats also part of your emissions system, which if you are not worried about emissions, you can remove all of it, the EGR valve, Char coal canister.

A lot of us do it cause it cleans everything up and eliminates like 95% of vacuum hoses. On the other hand if you need to do emissions you will need all of this stuff.

There is a write up in a sticky on how to remove emissions stuff from your engine.

Mike.
