hey everybody,

hope you're well.

my wife and i are trying to figure out whats up with our 2008 Rogue. we got it at 45K replaced both front and back rotors along with front and back brakes and had CVT replaced at the nissan dealer back on August 31. the dealer service said some kind of pump was broken in the CVT and it would be replaced under warranty. we are wondering if it was leaking for those two weeks before we brought it in for service.

we can't tell if its still going on... our parking spot has all this greasy fluid still in the space, three month later in November. we think something leaked during the first two weeks we had it and are just noticing it now.

every time it rains, it has this yellow pollen looking-ness in the spot where all the fluid was, really messy. it got so bad today that we have moved the Rogue to our other parking space to see if it does it over there, and haven't noticed anything yet after two days.

any thought?? thanks erik

PS - what are the colors of the engine fluids on a Rogue?? and what kind of pump could have broken in the CVT?

i mentioned it had been the fuel pump (at least thats what i thought they told me) only to see it corrected in the forums here. people say the fuel pump is toward the back of the Rogue and has nothing to do w the CVT.

It was probably the oil pump in the CVT as explained here

Nissan's CVT fluid is green in color. Engine is the color of your engine oil, light-ish yellow, then black.

I would guess the fluid you seen on the ground is old since you moved it to another spot and haven't seen anything in 2 days.
Clean up your other spot so that you can spot things in the future.

if your parking spot has oil stains, it will resurrect the colors every time its wet. you mentioned you see it every time it rains- so there you go.

the best test is to put a flattened cardboard under the car, and leave it. check it daily.

yellow fluid colors:
r134a (but thats more neon green, and it wont leak, it will shoot out, since it under pressure)
brake fluid
clutch fluid (in manual cars)
fresh engine oil (really-really fresh, like just out of the bottle)
diesel fuel
(SOME) washer fluid

thank you guys so much!

i realized it probably is engine oil. i couldnt tell last night, but this morning i looked at it, and it does look like oil

the yellowness looks like tree pollen and tree fragments caught in the oil. we park sideways on a hill and i think what happened is the ryan washed all the parking lot stuff down the hill and into the leakage spot under our car...

i will try the cardboard too! thanks so much you guys :) :)
