The dash wasn't the only ugly part of the Aztec! Pretty much the entire vehicle was hideous.Ginsu wrote:Pontiac Aztec
Yeah, I don't buy it either. My Scion xA has the center gauge-pod thing also. It doesn't bother me at all. I was used to it in 5 minutes. Toyota claims that the center position is "safer" because it keeps your eyes on the road better. That's total BS. They do it to save money. When that car is produced for a country with right-hand-drive cars, they only need to relocate the steering column and not the gauge cluster. It's all about saving money and ease of production flexibility. That's why you don't see it on upper-end cars. It's only on the smaller economy cars like Scion xA, Toyota Yaris, and Saturn Ion (the pod on the Ion can simply be turned at the factory to point toward the other side).Knightro2 wrote:I HAAAAAAAATTTEEE the centered dash console thingies. I know they did some research that shows by placing the guages in the center it is suppose to allow your eyes to be on the road more...but really it just feels like they are doing it to TRY and be different.
Really? I agree that the Versa dash is pretty plain looking but calling it ugly is a bit of a stretch. There are FAAAAAARR uglier dashes out there.AZhitman wrote:
Moving the gauge cluster over to the right does give you a totally unubstructed view of the road. Glancing over at your gauges is actually easier than you would imagine. Like I said, it took me less than 5 minutes to be completely used to it. Besides, I don't think it was to be "different" or for safety. I think it was to save money in production. Either way, it works fine.MinisterofDOOM wrote:Center-mounted instrument clusters are easily the worst idea in the history of dashboard designs. Yes, let's take critical information and move it OUT of the driver's eyeline! To hell with function, it's DIFFERENT!
