What is the usual failure mode for a CVT transmission? does the belt get stretched beyond the tensioner"s ability to adjust? solenoids that change the diameter of the spools wear? something else entirely?

I'm just idly curious. Just changed my CVT after 125K, and the dealership tech said they don't even open them. Just send back to Nissan to rebuild and reissue. They even have plastic hardshell cases to ship them is.

I have a 2012 Rogue, and I think my CVT is teetering on the edge. I described my situation on another thread.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year folks.

So I'm curious, you guys that have had failure or fear impending failure. Did you change your transmission fluid and if so, did you use the reccomended Nissan fluid? I'm thinking of the 2011 model years and after. The ones that did not have their warranty extended.
