What is the function of the switch next to the lighter hole on the center console? I've always been curious.

No ****, it's for power mirrors if you've got 'em. If not (like me), you've either got a hole or a plastic piece covering the hole. It's a little control switch to adjust the power side mirrors and it's on the driver's side next to the lighter. Seriously.

Here's a picture of the hole where my switch would be if I had power mirrors on my S13. I bought the little plastic piece to cover the hole but haven't had a chance to snap it in there.

As a side note, I found out after almost two years of owning the car that the lighter wasn't attached to anything. Someone pulled it out and snipped the wires instead of just pulling the plug off it. So, that's two more things to fix.

I'm sure it was nothing personal. Maybe he's used to more hostile forums than NICO.

Anyway, as you can see I've currently got two Simpson-esque "Speed Holes" in my console. It really sucked the first time I pulled my lighter out and the whole assembly came with it, trailing two bare, cut wires. Luckily I quit smoking a few years ago.

if there is actually a switch in there someone might have installed some aftermarket item.

usually a blocker piece or power mirror adjuster. They are usually missing on all junkyard 240 though.

You might be able to get it from Midway parts.

Before this gets too hostile, consider the fact that the previous owner of the vehicle possessing the switch in question may have done so good a job of installing a switch for his own purposes that it looks factory. If you're not looking at the power window control, or if you have no power windows, it's probably not factory.

edit: sorry bcar. It's early in teh morning. I think the little green men deleted your post and then replaced it after I posted. Or hell...maybe I just overlooked it...

Damn man. Talk about hostile. It's not like asking a question's dumb. Unless you're asking something that everyone knows, like... "what color is the sky?"

Sorry for the hostility. BadMojo was right, it's nothing personal, and I am used to more hostile forums than these. But, on my 90 fastback, there's literally a switch, its round, and can only go up and down.. has a white dot on the top of it. I'll take a picture by tomorrow and show you guys.. Again, sorry for the hostility, I've read this bored a few times, dunno what came over me.

On convertibles, that's where the 2 switches for the rear power windows go.
