What is the PTY button for?

I have read the owner's manual regarding the 'PTY' button for the radio stations, but it is not clear to me how to use it and what the advantages are. Does anyone use this feature?

I tried PTY button a few times. I think it allows you to find the type of FM stations you want, and skip those you don't. Without this button, FM will stop at any receiveable station. So the advantage is to save a little time, as well as it shows the name of that station.

The way I use it: press PTY number of times until it shows the type of station I like to hear, for example, CLASSICAL, then pressseek/track and just wait.

I think if there is no such station, or that station is too weak to receive, after a few seconds the radio will return to the last station it was at. Oh maybe some stations are not coded so the radio can do nothing to detect it.

To me it's a fun feature but I don't use it that often.
