I'm going to take the one I just bought to the local drag strip for a few runs and want to hand shift the automatic transmission. Nitro

Dont shift too high. First is good til redline, then maybe 5500rpm after that...

Peak torque is at 4400rpm and peak horsepower is at 5600rpm. Typically, I shift around 5900rpm.

You could try a search, or read some magazine databases. And presumably you've driven your car before, so you should have some idea about the powerband of your engine. While you're at the dragstrip, try a few different shiftpoints. You should be able to figure out when it lets off and when you can keep it in the lower gear.

my auto s14 shifts at 6k in D. granit, this was measured with a gtech, i have consistantly gotten better times if i rev my right before the rev limiter at 6800. i guess the different gearing with the auto 4spd on my upshift i land about 4900. which is around peak tq. thats what i have found to be best.

No, actually I've not had the chance to drive it yet. It had the very front bent and I havn't pried the sheetmetal out of the way so I can get it to the racetrack.

thanks to those that replied. Oh, I thought the G-Tech was a good idea so just ordered one. It is all helpful info!!! Nitro

Sorry, didn't realize you just bought it when I posted. However...I don't think I'd take it to the track before driving it around on the streets to get used to it. But that's me. Make sure nothing is going to fall apart on you while you're racing.

Here's a dyno of my stock KA on 87 gas on a 3rd gear pull. Number should be higher if done in 4th gear, so the curces should be shifted up a little bit.Stock KA24DE DynoDecide for yourself where you wanna shift.
