What is the hollow box ????

I pulled my air intake box out when i put my cone filter on and just recently saw this through the hole where it used tobe i pulled the drivers side wheel and wheel well lining off and found this empty box that used to connect to the intake? whats its purpose from what i can see its just hollow inside??

to quiet down the factory intake??? well whatever it is its not in there now weight reduction at its finest lol

depending on certain applications, a resonator can actually increase horse a bit (don't know why). for example. My old tempo had a massive one that doubled as the radiator shroud and the car ran faster with it than without it.

It store filtered air for rapid throttle changes. It takes time to get the airstream to speedup and flow through the filter element and without it you would feel a hesitation if you romped the gas. Other than that they are great to throw at people you dont like.

i've heard that the reason a resonator can help with power is that it acts as a resivoir for air to pool up in. At least this is the reason Spoon left the stock intake box on their s2000 racer.

its acutally 4 10mm bolts, which are very very easy to remove.... sigh

That box is the one before the filter in the front left bumper correct? Where the CAI goes, right? I believe it's just a resonator.

I think the one madscientist is talking about is the one close to the throttle body. It's a smaller hollow box which is bolted to the fan shroud.

I dont think it is a capaciter for the intake, that is what the plenum on the intake is for. But it might be, It is a noise canceling device. When air is drawn threw the piping it make sound waves that are bouncing every where and it make a very loud noise. now they put an enclosed box in the intake system. sound waves want to occupy every where at once, so they rush into that box and have no where to go, they then bounce off the walls and cancel each other out. Basicly it is a muffler type of system, it works the exact same way that a flowmaster works but it is dealing with less noise.
