On my 93 of yore, that plate (about 5 x12 inches) fell off at about 100,000 miles. Never thought much of it. Yesterday, one came off my 94 at 85 miles per hour on the PA Turnpike--- thank god it didn't fly off and kill the guy behind me. The scraping sound sure scared the s h i t out of me.

Is it a skid plate or a heatsink?

Peter

While not a PHD in auto thermodynamics or mechanics and having NOT spent 10,000 + hours working on Q's, I'm not qualified to even own a Q let alone turn wrench on one. But, I'd bet money that gizmo is there to prevent your CAT from setting the grass on fire should you park in a field some day. Don't laugh, this actually happened in Virginia hunt country a few years ago at a polo match. Several VERY expensive cars were totaled by the conflagration.

My cat shield landed in a dumpster long ago. I don't park on grass unless it's damp.

if you're talking about the heat shield on the cat converter, its just for what he said... Just dont park on a huge pile of dry leaves or grass...

I rip those puppies off when they start rattling...
