We have a 2008 Versa S with the regular 4 speed automatic. I want to change the ATF fluid but I can't find the capacity level listed any where in the owners manuel. Can you please tell me how many quarts of ATF I need to use. Thanks.

Manual says to fill until it reaches the proper level on the dipstick, so may have to be trial and error.

I would guess its going to be somewhere between 2 and 3 quarts. Most AT are around 3 qts I believe, but not sure if that is with/without filling up the cooler.

I'd start off with 2 and then see where it is on the dipstick.

Hopefully someone knows the exact quantity on here or you can call the dealer and ask.

Remember there will be a bit left in the torque converter.

what is your mileage on the car that you have to replace the fluid?

It is recommended to replace the A/T fluid at 30k miles according to your owners manual.

The service manual states there is 8 3/8 qt of A/T fluid in the transmission and recommends using Genuine NISSAN Matic “D” ATF (ContinentalU.S. and Alaska) or Canada NISSAN Automatic Transmission Fluid *2.

Not for regular A/T that is the average mileage interval for most auto makers including Chevy, Ford, Honda Nissan, and Kia.

When I was working for GM if you went over 75000 miles and never had the transmission fluid flushed we would not do a transmission service due to the risk of having the seals leak.

Now if you own a CVT the recommended interval change is at 60,000 miles.

those sound like more reasonable numbers.

The A/T fluid thins as it ages and that is why Nissan recommends it being replaced every 30k its down to the type of trans fluid the transmission needs.

Just like Nissan recommends the coolant being flush every 30k as well.

It a recommendation and up to you if you want the longevity of you transmission to be there and not burned up at 175K miles or still going strong at 200k.

As a mechanic, and if I had the 4 speed auto trans every 30k then fluid would be flushed as well as the coolant system.

As I stated earlier due to the different fluid type for the CVT the recommendation from Nissan is 60k and that is when I plan on having my CVT serviced. as well as every 60k after that.
