Besides put a jack under it and unhook everything?

Just giving you a bit of trouble. I'm in the same boat, rear main just blew out.

While it is out is there anything else that should just be done because the transmission is out?

Later,

Matt

Well, you need a lift, and a trans jack.

Simply disconnect the driveshaft and torque converter and unbolt the transmission.

i went through the process a couple of days ago (tt transmission, but it should be almost exactly the same), i was able to use a car lift and a transmission hoist for the job, it took me 11 hours (with a lot of breaks in between) to fully complete the transmission removal, installation, and testing.....

there is nothing to it, but it is a long process.... it goes as follows:

* unbolt the drive shaft, pull it out of the way* drain as much fluid as you can through the drain plug* remove the transmission cooler lines* loosen the transmission mount bolts (4 bolts in the back side of the transmission, again loosen them but dont remove them, and becarefull with those bolts, as i had two break on me while removing them, so take your time with them)* remove the starter motor (2 bolts, plus 2 nuts holding wires to the back of the starter)* remove the lower side bolts holding the transmission to the engine (lower bell housing area), now you can get to the torque converter by removing the metal shield that was held by the lower transmission bolts.... you can see the torque converter bolts ( 4 in total) by looking at the transmission from the front of the car* rotate the flywheel using a screwdriver to get to the 4 converter bolts, then jam a flat head screw driver to the flywheel from the starter motor opening so you can remove the bolts (you will understand it once you are there, there are 4X 14mm bolts holding the torque converter to the flywheel)* put back two bolts to the lower bell housing, leave them loose* remove the upper bolts holding the transmission to the engine (that can only be done from the engine bay, leave two in place but loosen them and make sure that you can get to them from the bottom side* mount the transmission hoist* remove all bolts (transmission mount bolts, plus the 4 bolts in the bell housing are, all of which should be loose by this stage)* slowly and very carefully, pull the transmission towards the back of the car (about a foot backwards), then lower the transmission to the ground

for the installation, it is the reverse of the above....

as mensioned above, it is not hard to do, but it takes a lot of time and beer (given that you have a good tool set with extensions, you will mostly be using a 14mm regular and elongated, 12mm regular and elongated, and 21mm regular sockets with different extensions)

i hope that this helps, good luck
