What is the difference between a dome light and a map light?

I am in the middle of fixing my interior lights as none of them turn on. This piece is already attached on the roof. I just need to change the bulbs.

But I am missing the back piece for the second light. It still has the metal base where the bulb sits in, but it's missing its housing. Is this the part I need to buy? Also what bulbs do I need to buy for each of these? Thanks

Yes, the pictured item is the map lights and not the dome light if that's your question.

Map lights are oriented to push the light in one direction, toward the driver or passenger seat so that particular person can read a map without disturbing the other. These are generally in the front center by the windshield.

Dome lights are place in the center of the "ceiling" so that light can illuminate the entire inside of the car. This is generally located basically by the headrest of the seats or right by your head.

They both provide illumination; however, the map light is for those without GPS on their phone. :chuckle:
