The charcool element is a canister located to the right of the radiator. It is part of the emmisions system. I am not positive, but it does something with relieving pressure in the fuel lines i think. I have not a clue when u would need to replace it.

Pressure builds up in your gas tank. What that does is there is a line that runs forward into your engine bay, across thefirewall and up to the front support, then plugs into the carbon canister. Then there is a vaccum that runs to your throttle body because those fumes are damaging to the environment, and having the intake putting a vaccum on the carbon canister helps promote flow to the canister and I imagine it burns off what it can.

I took mine off. Screw emissions.

it has activated carbon in the canister that i believe filters impurities out of the evaperated fuel fumes from the fuel tank and then routes them to be burned through the intake plenum.

BuudWeizErr wins the prize. It's called the Fuel Evaporation Control. It also causes a minor increase in MPG by helping to burn fumes that otherwise would have been wasted.

don't forget that they also would have polluted the atmosphere...the real purpose behind the EGR.

Yes. Undo one screw holding it in place. Unhook hose on bottom of canister. Remove canister. Throw canister as far as you possibly can. Flex muscles. Consider working out more. Remove and cap vaccum line that goes to the throttle body. Let the line that comes from the firewall and the big line that was under the canister vent to atmosphere. Drink a beer while admiring how "mechanically-inclined" you are. Call it a day (you've worked hard today!).

Problem solved.

do bypassing this actually give you more power? it doesn't seem like it would, and there is no reason to pollute for no reason

yeah, the engine still runs fine and everything, gas just pours out of the damned thing. I don't think it gives any more power and I am from Texas so I can give two poops about the environment :D
