what is the button beside the ignition ?

where you put the key in. it doesn't seem to do anything. i can put the key in or take it out any time even when engine is running. it doesn't matter what gear. it is a 1991 240sx standard.

that's supposed to be a key lock. the key shouldn't be able to be turned to the last OFF setting without that being depressed. Your lock selenoid is definitely jacked

The car was stolen a couple years ago so that might explain it. I might have to replace solenoid because it was stolen again. have not looked at it yet.
