91-94 has the dual cam so probably one of those. IMO the best one is the newest and/or best condition.

s13 = chasis code. If it was different it wouldn't be an s13, it would be a 12, 14, or 15... Like everyone else said, theres chuki and zenki. Piggy, and well chuki... just make sure u get the dual overhead instead of the single slammer. if ur swapping it dont really matter, but ull prolly fetch a lot more for the de.

I hate the word "mods"

WHOA, WHAT MODS DO YOU HAVE?

The best s13 to buy is the one that's most mechanically sound

Mechanically sound is the key. But your plans for the car may also affect your choice.

How do you plan to make power? (And don't say bolt-ons... They're an utter waste of time and resources.) Turbo your KA or swap somenthing else in?

If you wanna turbo your KA, I'd say focus your search on '91-'93 year s13's. I mean, the Sohc can get the job done, but Dohc KA > Sohc KA. Although, most ppl like the black carpetting in the 89-90 best.

If you plan to chunk the motor and just do a swap...why not get a '89-'90 in that case?

save up and get something reliable. And don't cheap out on s***... seriously, it's not worth ruining your car. Treat your car with respect, and it'll last you.

You're wrong Adrian. The s14 was a coupe.

ok, for all you chuckleheads who claim to be 240 experts and don't know your s-chassis from your own rectum, here it is. s13's in the us sales in 1994. 1994 was vert only. s13 hatches in japan continued sales through 1998 because of their high popularity.

op, to answer your question, get any hatch from 1989-1993. it won't matter if it's sohc or dohc, some people have a preference of dohc over sohc, but the latter will get the job done. i've owned 2 piggy hatches and was content with the sohc. just find one in as best shape as you can find. don't settle for what's available, you can travel a little or hold off and stack more money until something better comes along, they always do. good luck.

My advice would be the same as most statements above, buy something thats clean and works. Don't just cheap out and get a rusted or non-mechaniclly sound car just cause you want one now.

My view is, the better the platform is when you start, the easyer and less troublesome it will be to get it to where you you want the car to be.

BTW, stock 240's are slow as piss, so don't waste your money on bolt-ons. Spend that money instead on making a reliable car.

The 91- s13 se and the 98- s14 se, were rated as the best all around 240's made. So to answer the op's question, the 91 is the best car to look for./thread
