What is going on 240 owners! Everytime I push my ride and get to the 5 thousand rpm through 6 I get the most annoying whine and squeel coming from the engine. Does anyone know what this is?

A belt maybe? My alt. belt squeals like a hungry pig on start up. (as anyone at the March 8th meet might have heard when i left)

i have an annoying squeal when i start my car up...or did...every time that happens my water pump breaks in some horrible way. but that only happens to me, so id say try new belts and/or check how tight they are.

i'm almost 100 percent its a belt. GO by some belt dressing and spray some on. See if that helps. A can is probably just 5 bucks or so.

Good idea!

I have the same type of problem but also when I start the engine, it squeals the first few revs, then it's fine....?

I'll try the belt dresser first...

thanks guys

Your belts might be getting old too or have too much deflection...or not enough. Check the tension on your belts too, the other day one of my tensioning bolts flew off my motor and I heard a clunk clunk as my car was still going. When I got home about an hour or so later, I realized that one of the tensioning bolts flew off...so I replaced it with one from my buddies motor since he's doing his sr swap...
