It seems like people call anything they see or any idea they don't like rice or ricey. I've heard the term thrown around so much it just seems to be an insult now. I'm just curious; what does "Rice" mean to you guys?

I think a safe defintion would be trying to make a car seem like somthing it isnt. i.e. GTR symbol on a mustang, VTEC stickers on non-vtec cars, big wings on stock civics, japanese sticker/companies on domestic cars, bragging about parts/times you car doesnt have.

rice to me would also include gawdy or tacky visual upgrades..

wings on FWD cars, bright orange paint, unpainted or partial bodykits, clear taillights...

Quote »Rice-Boy is a stereotype. The typical Rice-Boy can be identified by his car, or rather what he does to it. Generally, Rice-Boy will start out with a car that was not meant to go fast (typically a Honda Civic), and attempt to "fix it up," usually consisting of aftermarket rims, lowering springs and an aftermarket exhaust system with a large exhaust tip.

Most Rice-Boy cars (or "Rice Rockets") have the usual complement of stickers proudly displaying features that the car might or might not have, most notably, the Honda VTEC sticker from the later model Preludes, and the plaques from the later model Integras.

Rice-Boys do not exclusively drive Japanese cars. There are quite a few fake Mustang '5.0's and Camaro Z28's out there, as well as quite a few strange looking Neons.
Quote »For example -- I have seen many a Civic with aftermarket rims with the wrong wheel offset, or just plain lowered incorrectly. Sure, the car looks nice, except for the tendancy for the wheels to slant inward, preventing the tire's full contact patch from touching the ground, which results in poorer traction, leading to slower acceleration and poor cornering. This of course defeats the purpose of lowering one's car (to acheive better cornering).

Now, a slight amount of negative camber can aid in cornering, however, the slant I am describing can be 4 degrees or even more, which is an excessive amount, far more than could ever be useful on the street, especially on stock-sized wheels.

Another interesting point about lowering cars: it really needs to be done properly. I ran into a Rice-Boy who drives a White Civic EX Coupe (like how many of these are out there??), who, after replacing his aftermarket "performance" lowring-springs with his stock springs again (he was taking his car into the dealer and didn't want them to know he messed with the car), exclaimed, "Hey you know, my car handles BETTER with the stock springs!". I'm not surprised. I'm sure some Honda engineer spent days working on those springs... why mess with them?
Quote »Appearance vs. PerformanceWhat sets apart Rice-Boys from normal performance enthusiasts is that they are more concerned with the image of speed than they are about actual performace. Few Rice Rockets add the one option that can make a Civic begin to go fast -- a turbochager.

Take for example, the above pictured Civic. It looks pretty mean and fast with its rims and super-spoiler (another staple of Rice-Boy technology), but closer inspection will reveal that this is a Civic DX. The mirrors and liscence plate frames are FLAT BLACK, whereas LX and EX models are painted and would be shiny. A noble attempt at fooling people (as black plastic would stand out more on a red or white car as opposed to a black car), but the outside appearance doesn't change what is under the hood -- a Civic DX economy car engine.

It's not so much that Rice-Boy is trying to make his car look good. There are lots of people out there who just want to make their car look good, and don't care about speed at all. Rice-Boy, however, says that he is making his modifications to enhance his car's performance, when really, all he cares about is fitting some sort of image. For example, he may lower his car, saying that it is for a lower center of gravity, and thus, better handling, but if he doesn't do a good job of it (i.e., his car is bouncing around from his shocks being able to handle the higher spring rates... or he cuts his springs making his car uneven) then we know that really, he cares more about looking low then he does about better cornering. Rice is a term for food. Asian people eat rice instead of bread for their main course. Japanese cars are asian cars, that is why the "white" trash driving mustangs refer to the japanese cars as "Rice Burner" or "Rice Rocket"...etc. Since the car industry climbs, the muscle car guys get jealous and started out the word "Rice". Since rice is a f u c k i n g consummable resource, it does not have to do anything with cars, except for those rednecks.

Whenever i see the word rice, I often think of it as an insult, because I am asian and I don't like other races thinks that "rice" is not an okay word to say.

Seriously, what is the definition of rice? Do you see any other explaination for that word anywhere in the dictionary rather than a grain that uses as food. Get real.

HAHAHAHAHAHA hitman i did not even notice that until you brought it up... but lets not hate on aznride he refers to ricers as the people not the car. my opinion of "rice" is anything that wants to be but is not. I dont consider the showcars with graphics on the side "rice" unless it dont look right. i think of rice when i see the kid with the spray painted scubatank with a NOS sticker on it in his trunk of his stock civic. If you make your import to be something its not, it will scream rice. Flashly bodykits and clear taillights dont make it rice. I know alot of kids with them kind of cars, they dont tell me "hey jeff i bet my car would run yours" they know their car is for looks. Rice is the import that has a exhaust tip and a ghetto intake and thinks faster now. Blame movies. There is one on everyones mind, but lets not point fingers

No hate here, just pointing out a hypocrite when I see one.

BTW, Aznride: Don't use the word "Redneck" - That gets us Alabama folks all riled up... Kind of like "rice"....(j/k):D

p.s. I'm thinking of getting plates for my Q45 that say: XXL RICE.

Hey retard - You said in your post you don't like people to use the word RICE. Then I read your sig line, and in it, you use the word RICE. You are the one acting all butt-hurt over a four letter word - I simply pointed out that if you're going to cry about words that offend, don't use them yourself. I personally am not offended by ANY of these words - I simply don't care.
AznRide wrote:can you rephrase that in english?

English is my first language and I use it quite well, thank you. Perhaps your reading skills are deficient.

Judging from your previous post, you could use a tutorial yourself.

Settle down, Azn - And if you continue to use profanity in your posts, it will be dealt with accordingly.

BTW - What do you guys think of my plate idea? XXLRICE - Get it? Big car? Built in Japan? Never mind...LOL :D

Kaioshin1982's right - My bigger concern is that a member can use a word all day long but then freak out when anyone else uses it... Like they have a copyright on it or something.
