what is relationship between Consult and dashboard diagnostic readout?

I've read on past threads that there is a way to check fault codes from the ECU without Consult (but can't currently find that thread). I'm wondering: if there is a fault code, does that also trigger the dashboard "idiot light" information panel to read "check engine" or something similar? Or put more simply, if my dashboard info panel has no negative messages is it still possible that there is a fault code recorded?

Yes... Certain things, like KS store codes but dont throw a CEL.. I guess its because they dont pose an immediate problem.....

Its a good idea to check the codes every so often..... Besides, it will throw a yellow light on the right hand side with the CEL.....

As far as code reading, you can read all the codes you can with or without a consult...
