what is needed for a dry 50-shot of Nitrous on my KA s14?

Information on the naturally-aspirated KA24E and KA24DE engines.

I will be getting an SR soon, but I want to slap a small 50-shot of Nitrous on my current KA for now. My question is, what else do I need to buy besides the little Nitrous kit?

I'm getting NGK plugs and i suppose I also need a new fuel pump. Anything else?

Also, what's the going rate for labor on Nirtrous installations? I would do it myself, but I don't really have the time to tinker with it if i run into problems (my one and only daily driver).

Thanks fellas.

Oh yeah, and which systems would you recommend? TNT? ZEX? Nitrous Express? NOS? JG EDLEBROCK? VENOM?

Thanks again...

not even a small 50-shot? What harm can that possibly do to stock internals? I will be getting NGK plugs and a better pump so I doubt there's any possibility of detonation.

i'm currently running a 100 shot on my nearly stock 240sx KA24E. all i did is throw in some platinum plugs, get a new fuel filter, and make sure i'm always running 91 or higher octane gasoline. i've done about 20 passes on it and have had no problems whatsoever, and the only other performance upgrade i have is cat-back exhaust. if using the application specific kits from NOS, you don't even have to upgrade you're fuel pump because with a dry kit, the nitrous oxide gets injected into intake system before the mass airflow sensor, thus allowing the computer to compensate for more air and pump in more fuel, so you're okay if you use a dry kit. however if you go with a wet kit, then a fuel pump upgrade is necessary.

Thanks for the info man...I was originally looking at NOS simply becuase they've been around for so long and have been tried and tested. But recetnly i've been looking into the Venom and ZEX systems because of their usability. The venom system is fully programable. It even has a linear mode which automatically increases the Nitrous flow as the throttle is opened, so your power curve is improved throughout the mid to upper powerband like turbo. The ZEX system seems extremely simplified, taking much of the hassle out of installation and tinkering. I forgot if it was plate or nozzle though...i know NOS is nozzle, which is aparently better than plate.

Anyway, about how many shots should a 10lb tank provide?

I've run nos(trademark) on my chevy 350ci,5 yrs ago. You might want to read a book on using nitrous. 1 (one).....get a ignition box that will retard your timing when the "juice is hit.........superchargers/turbo's/nos have to retard there timing when they push it to the limit.2(two) Run 110 octane in a fuel cell in your trunk/ your regular gas in your gastank. When you hit the switch, put a switch where the extra fuel comes from the 110 octane.. 3 (three) To get the 50hp boost, you have to use 100+ fuel.minumum There is only so much energy in pump fuel. You can run nitrous all day(drag racing) a quarter mile at a time ,if you use common sense If i wasn't clear....if you run 91 octane with your timing not adjusted(advanced as i asume yours is) your asking for trouble...imho

yeah you're right...from what i hear, you need to retard the timing by 4 degrees if i recall correctly. As for the cell though, I don't think i will use it on my daily driver. It's not for the track. but once I get my SR, I may buy a new DD and use this s14 for the track, so we'll see. Guess I can just use Octane boost for now...but really a 50-shot should be fine on 93 octane, no?

Retard the timing 4 degrees from the stock setting??? That might be right...i had a gizmo that set it automatically....it's under $100. 93 octane is do-able..but you might not get the full 50hp boost and your engine will have a shorter life(ping, ping, ping, boom) if your timing isn't set right and ect.... Of course, your installing a sr20det....so you shouldn't care anyway!!!!

good luck, you will probly go through some radiators , due to the low mounting, u will have to make some home made brackets to mount the radiator almost like the 84-89 300z cars have it mounted under the front of the car at an angle , the rb26dett is a very long engine!!! hope it works out it will be worth the effort.:ylsuper

i'm getting the older RB20DET motor...should fit almost as snug as an SR, with some modification.
