So I did the grey market importing thing and brought over a 1997 R33 GTS as an experiment to learn about importation of the Skylines. I researched not only importation of the Skylines but other JDM cars as well. I was able to get the car registered here in California but not federalized according to DOT, EPA or NHTSA standards. My question is what can I do with the car now? Its a 1997 Skyline GTS basically stock with some Enkei wheels. The car was purchased lightly wrecked but was repaired here in the states. If I was to sell it what kind of resale value should i expect? Is there a market for the so called "Grey market" cars?
After reading this and other forums I just figured it was so much easier to just do the state registration thing. I mean if the car is licensed, insured what are the odds of any problems down the road. I mean if your not driving it at the street races or doing something stupid what are the real chances of something going wrong? I showed the car to several friends of mine that are seasoned police officers (although not CHP) and they all said I was fine. They also said that as least in california the federal laws are not inforced by local agencies but rather federal agencies. They basically said that I was fine. ..
Pleaes provide input.... Thanks everyone
