WHat is involved in removing the transverse link from a 2002 Max. I had mine replaced and 10,000 miles later, I need new whele bearings. The mechanic at my shop said the axle nut was only hand tight so I am wondering if they didn't tighten the nut down properly.

The axle is not unbolted to replace the trans link. Nissan designed a speacial tool to get the lower ball joint nut off without removing the axle. The axle nut only being hand tight is not suprising though as I have seen a small handfull of new model nissans with that nut becoming loose, not many but it has happened. Not sure if it was a result of it not being torqued right initially during the build of the car or weather the bearing crushed a bit from driving causeing it to become loose. I have seen approx 3 or 4 cars like that since 2001.
