This is probably something i know, but i have no clue whatsoever what it stands for, and i did search.

HICAS is Nissan's four wheel steering system. I believe it's an acronym for High Capacity Actively Controlled Suspension. Apparently "HCACS" just doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

I more accurately describe it as an active rear toe. The rear does very little to actually turn the car. It has a range of about +/- 1 degree of movement from the static setting. It's purpose is to initially aid in turn in by pointing the outer rear wheel outward in a turn, then adds stability by pointing the outer rear wheel inwards as you settle into the turn. Very much the same way changing your rear toe settings change the handling characteristics. The intent seems to be to try and acheive the good traits of each setting without the compromise. Though many do not seem to like it...

the Focus has a similar set up and the biggest complaint people have is that the car feels like it is loose when the suspension compresses mid corner and the 'passive rear steer' begins...
