what is function of tubes coming off front part of exhaust with sensor.

Replaced exhaust with test pipes and had to disconnect a sensor on each pipe. it had a sensor that was connected to a soft hose that connected to a steel tube up near front tires. What does that do and can I leave disonnected or should I plug??Thanks

will car run fine without them hooked up? I don't want to damage engine after doing a JDM swap.
