what is entailed in replacing ignition. car was stolen.

I have 91 240 sx. The car was hot wired. i don't exactly know what that means. the police said the ignition was destroyed. do they ram screwdriver in where key is supposed to go? how much would it cost to fix? thanks

the whole lock selenoid is probably screwed. Basically, it's held onto the steering column by two halfmoons. You'll have to remove all the column covers to get to it, disconnect the harness plugs, assuming that they didn't cut the harness wires to start it directly.

If you're lucky, they cut the wires on the harness connecting the selenoid to the dash harness. All you have to do then is reconnect the wires with some crimp connectors.

If it was boosted forcibly by applying an instrument to the key slot, the lock is fubar.
