Mini-monster on my dash, she kicked it. Use your imagination

Sr20det s13 redtop

Until I have the money for a new one, what are the top MPH for each gear? So far as I've pushed it, I have this...

1st - 40 mph2nd - 62mph3rd- 93mph4th- ???5th- ???

I've driven without a tach before, but I need to go to the track and I won't have money for a new one until then =(. So correct my numbers if I'm wrong, ty guys.

thanks a ton!

My redline is higher, so looks like mid-high fourth is my goal for the track

i would liek to know how an 8000 rpm redline and 275/40r17 would affect those numbers

I actually made my own java program to calculate this.

This is using a final drive of 4.08:1, Redline 8000rpm, and 275/40/17 tires.1st - 45.07mph - 3.3212nd - 78.70mph - 1.9023rd - 114.44mph - 1.3084th - 149.69mph - 1.05th - 197.22mph - .759

However, DrifterProdigy85 used the 5th gear ratio of the KA24 transmission. In the SR transmission the 5th gear ratio is .838

So 5th would really be:5th - 178.62mph - .838

You would need quite a bit of power to come even close to that, not to mention better aerodynamics for stability purposes

oh i think my car will have enough power. i am getting the HLSD s15 but i am not going change the rear end ratio so that will stay the same as the stock but the transmission is the sr20 and it is stock....... i think if i had a god long road i might try for 170 but other then that probably not it is scarry doing 140

The SOHC KA trans has a .838 5th gear. The DOHC KA and SR Trans has a .759 5th gear. I use this calculator. http://www.f-body.org/gears/

Actually my S14 SR20DET FSM states that the gear ratio of 5th gear is .838, as does http://www.200sx.org/faq_2.html . Maybe the S13 SR uses the same ratio as the KA but the S14 SR does not, I'd be curious as to if it does.

Looks like the general internet consensus is that the S13 SR does share the same ratio as the KA24DE. Interesting.

My 5th gear speed has always read 70mph @ 3krpm in 5th. That would make it the .759. My SOHC KA used to read around 65mph @ 3krpm in 5th.

Your calculation for those 275/40-17 tires and 8500rpm are wrong. The 275/40-17 tire is 25.6" diameter compared to the stock 195/60-15 tires being only 24.2". The 275/40 tires are 5.6% larger making the speed difference much greater at higher mph.

1st - 48mph2nd - 84mph3rd - 122mph4th - 159mph5th - 209mph (.759)5th - 190mph (.838)

Actually my calculations weren't wrong and are the same that are on websites such as http://www.f-body.org/gears/ . I calculated them for 8k rpm 275/40/17 because those were the parameters that Idahotuner was wondering about and for some reason I mistyped the rpm value in my post. Let me edit my post so the world keeps on spinning.

Also let me add that some websites factor in variables such tire size deformation, etc. I used a simple calculation that gives a user a rough estimate of vehicle speed based on rpm. The program does not factor in variables such as tire deformation due to pressure differences caused by barometric and altitude differences, expansion due to centrifugal force, etc.
