I've heard about the active suspension, how it had problems, and was discontinued. . . what does it really feel like?

Is it worth it? Or over-engineered? And what was the real reason they cancelled it? Did they cancel it in the JDM as well?

1.) Read the previous posts.

2.) Depends. Most say yes.

3.) Wouldn't say that.

4.) Americans wouldn't maintain it.

5.) Not until the G50 ceased production in 2001. JDM G50 were overwhelmingly active.

I'm sure it's pretty cool, and it was a technological feat to bring to production cars. However, don't think just because it's active it will be the best handling car ever. Chasis stiffness is equally important, when the Y33 came out, it's chasis was significantly stiffer (over 100%) and when the F50 came out, even stiffer. Cars keep getting stiffer and stiffer.

Here's a fact: in the early 90's, Formula 1 cars had fully active suspensions, wide track, and super sticky slick tires. Full actives were banned going into '94 due to the speeds they were going. Yet 12 years later, with narrower track, grooved tires that have to last an entire race weekend, and "standard" suspensions (torsion beams), Formula 1 cars are faster than they have ever been and re-set track lap records almost every time they race.

The point isnt to make them actualy handle better, its to make them more confdience inspiring..... I have an article at home where they compared the active Q vs standard Q, it really didnt handle much better (was slower in many areas) (crappy tires) but they still prefered it hands down.

Yeah, that's the truth. People may feel more confident in it, but it's not necessarily quicker.

Most amazing ride experience and feeling of confidence. Tight on ramps were the most fun with seemingly unstickable feeling as the car stays level. Tires are absolutley the limit as commented but with todays technology and with say 17 inch wheels I think an Active would be fantastic in any conditions. There isn't a day that passes that I still don't mourn for my active.

Id love to drive an active Q with a set of michelin pilot sport PS2s... Thatd be a way to scare people, seeing a 4000lb car like that grip out the whazoo!
