i do it for the image .... jk

it keeps me occupied. its a way for me to hang out with a bunch of down to earth/ laied back people and have fun with my car. its also a good exercise of car control and makes me a better driver.

so all of the above.

The best thing I ever discovered.

Drifting keeps me sane, and safe. Yes safe.

I dont really know who, or what I'd be with out drifting. As gay as that sounds its what I feel.

drifting is feeling the wind in my hair through the open passenger window.drifting is feeling in control of, and the feeling of being one with my car.drifting is that OH ****! feeling when I'm heading straight for a tree, pole, curb, giant rock or pedestrian...............and then narrowly avoiding it, stopping, calming myself down...and trying it again

right now drifting is a unicorn to me, as i for some reason or another can never afford it. it is a form of release, a way to do away with all the stress of the daily bs. it is a solo act of union with a piece of metal with some rubber bits dancing and pirouetting(sp) in fluid motion. and its funner an hewl (say the lastpart fast, run the words together, and use a redneck accent)

Ok, I'll be the first dissenter... Drifting to me is like buttsechs: It may be cool to watch and root other people on when they do it, but I'm not gonna wreck MY $h!t trying it.

I do admire the skill and balls it takes, but as far as hobbies, I'd rather stay with my NHB/MMA fighting. If my face and body get banged up, they'll heal pretty much on their own. The car - eh - not so much.

if you do it in a safe controlled enviornment (racetrack, parking lot event, etc) its very safe.

dont think all drifting is are people wrecking cars and destroying their stuff.

something I'll watch with some interest but would probably not want to try on my daily driver

the risk outweighs the fun

No, I know that. That's the same thing people say about fighting. The thing is, as a poor person with good health insurance, I can afford to take more risk with my body than I can with my car. Kinda sad, but...

Drifting to me is going through life and never looking back on the bad things that happened in the past. It also means freedom, a sense of risk, and no holding back on anything. Expecting the unexpected.

It's also something I can't do now because I only have 1 car.

I'm surprised nobody has said, "Drifting to me is living life 1 curve at a time." (F&F stuff )

Becoming a popular sport what with D1 and all. It's also something that I'll never do.

drifting to me is a goal at this point. something I have thoroughly enjoyed watching, videoing, rattling on about to my friends and family, getting people close to me as hyped up about it as me, and dreaming about getting out there myself. I'm not crazy about the idea of drifting my sr20'd S14, but I have an S13 hatch I bought for $500 I'm going to prepare and hopefully enter into some events with this year. 2 of my best friends have acquired vehicles for that purpose as well. in that respect I guess it's a contagious disease. just need to find a safe place to practice....

drifting is an addiction, when i'm not at the track, im drifting on forza. sometimes you just need to be lucky to find a safe place to practice and a hookup on tires! you can buy mechaincal tire changers for $40 and you can get used tires for free. so once you're set up enough with your car, time to take it out and have fun. it doesnt have to be THAT expensive. drifting is by far the most fun thing i have ever done/experienced and the most fun you can have with a car.

im just saying it doesnt have to be. ive found perfect tires with ike 70% and i have 6 spare wheels. also, is there a tire wear thread? im gonna search.... kamin, dont argue with me. ive almost said to all your posts ive read so far

there is no tire wear thread, not sure if its a good idea because tire wear is VERY dependent on skill level lol. the same tires i used to be able to get a weekend out of when i started (2 days, about 160 min on track) i can barely get 2 sessions on now (40 min)

and ill argue with you all i want drifting is expensive no matter how you look at it. used tires suck. when you change tires you change handling characteristics of the car (traction, greasyness, predictability) so if you are going from used tire to used tire the car never handles the same. and the life of used tires is horrible. you can get CHEAP new tires for $60 a piece for most 17" sizes.

dont get me wrong, used tires are great for when you are learning because they will last forever because you cant hold a drift for more than a few seconds, but at a certain point you have to realize that its time to move on.

i have a feeling your rb25 has something to do with it too. my friend drifts on used tires and transitions constant drifts for minutes at a time. then again, he can tear it up on stock ka's and the basic drift suspension

what does my rb25 have to do with anything? horsepower? if you are doing prolonged high speed drifting you eat tires faster. no matter what car, or engine or horsepower.

lower speeds = less tire wear.

yeah good point, i guess it doesnt matter what engine or how much power. i guess it depends on the speed your wheels are going. i just added some mild upgrades to 300whp range and my 2nd gear is like nothing, im thinking of going to 3rd gear more often when i normally would use 2nd. therefor higher wheel speed and faster wear. i dont know, im gonna have toy with some things at the track this week. get used to the j30 diff and the extra hp

i wasn't trying to diss you in any way, I was just like dayum. It just suprised me when you siad you had 300whp with only a vLSD. I used to love VLSD's and I still like them, but i understand that they aren't best for drifting. I know own a welded diff.....I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT THEM KAMIN SO DONT BOTHER. lol, he cracks me up sumtimes. haha. ok sorry to get off track but yea, thanx for sharing. Step up ur diff and you'll have more fun out there.

god, i love drifting.
