what is brass in a s14 engine?

Hey all,

Gotta problem. I started hearing a ticking sound several days ago coming from my motor. I immediately parked it over at my mechanic's assuming it was a rocker arm or main/rod bearings. We pulled the engine and took off the oil pan and found this:



these little brass shavings are everywhere. We checked the rod and main bearings and they aren't made of brass - does anyone know what blew up on my engine? The turbo blades seem to spin ok when I spin them with my finger...so I dont think it's those.

valve guides i think are made of brass if that helps

the oil pump rotor isnt brass is it?
