Not a dumb question at all.
A "z-tube" is simply the intake tube from a 350Z. It is straighter than the one on the G35 and it has no resonated chambers.
It sounds "meaner" and is supposedly good for a couple HP. Also, allows you to retain the stock airbox, which is the best and safest for your G.
Beware of supposed "cold air intakes" that are poorly engineered, don't filter well, and suck in hot underhood air.
